Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Hangzhou West Lake & Meijiawu Arrival

In the morning, explore the West Lake scenic area. Depending on time and your pace, you might stroll along Su Causeway or Bai Causeway, stop at lakeside pavilions, and enjoy classic views of water, distant hills, and ancient-style bridges. Your guide can introduce the legends and poems that have made West Lake famous for centuries.

After lunch in Hangzhou city, drive to Meijiawu Tea Village, one of the best-known Longjing (Dragon Well) tea villages in the West Lake hills. Spend the afternoon walking through the village lanes and nearby tea fields, visiting a local tea house to taste different grades of Longjing tea and learn how locals judge aroma, color, and flavor.

As the sun goes down, enjoy a quiet evening in or near Meijiawu, with the surrounding hills and tea terraces creating a peaceful, countryside atmosphere.

Overnight in Meijiawu area.

Day 2 – Tea Picking, Pan‑Frying Experience & Return to Hangzhou

After breakfast, meet a local tea farmer or instructor for a tea experience session. Start with a walk into the tea fields to learn how and when to pick fresh shoots, then try hand‑picking some leaves yourself.

Return to a small workshop to see how the fresh leaves are pan‑fried (hand‑roasted) in traditional woks. Under guidance, you can try simple steps of roasting and shaping the leaves, gaining a feel for the temperature control and movements required. The tea you help to process can be packed for you to take home as a unique souvenir.

Enjoy a simple countryside lunch in the village. After the meal, drive back to Hangzhou city, where the 2‑day West Lake & Meijiawu tea experience comes to an end.

I thought this would just be a relaxing weekend, but I ended up learning way more about tea than I expected. Picking fresh leaves sounds easy until you actually try it! Roasting my own Longjing and taking it home made the whole experience feel really personal. Lisa was warm, funny, and made everyone feel comfortable from the start.

Julien Moreau

As someone who works with wine, I couldn’t stop comparing tea tasting to wine tasting. There are so many subtle aromas and textures that I’d never noticed before. Staying overnight in Meijiawu, surrounded by tea fields instead of traffic, was exactly what I needed.
