Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Luoyang: Old City & Palace Lantern Workshop

Arrive in Luoyang and check into a hotel near the Old City, giving you easy access to historic streets and evening walks. Take some time to rest and adjust to the travel pace.

In the afternoon, head into the Old City around Shizi Street and Lijing Gate. Stroll through narrow lanes lined with traditional façades, small shops, and food stalls that recreate the atmosphere of a Ming–Qing style city. Lijing Gate, with its imposing tower, offers a strong visual introduction to Luoyang’s role as an ancient capital.

Enjoy an intangible heritage experience by joining a Luoyang palace lantern workshop. Under the guidance of a local inheritor, assemble and decorate a mini palace lantern, learning about its history, symbolism, and role in traditional celebrations. You can take your finished lantern home as a personalized memento.

In the evening, try Luoyang’s famous “water banquet” (Luoyang shuixi), a multi‑course meal centered around soups and seasonal dishes, known for its refined presentation and long culinary tradition.

Day 2 – Longmen Grottoes & Tang Sancai Heritage

After breakfast, drive about 1 hour to Dengfeng, home of Shaolin Temple on Mount Song. Begin your visit at the Shaolin Temple main compound (Changzhu Yuan), exploring key halls, courtyards, and ancient trees that anchor the temple’s long history as a center of Chan (Zen) Buddhism and martial arts.
