Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Zhangjiajie: City Orientation & Evening Show
Arrive in Zhangjiajie City and transfer to your hotel.
After a short rest, join a guided walk around a local market or night street to get familiar with everyday life and typical Hunan snacks.
Overnight in Zhangjiajie City.
Day 2 – Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: Yuanjiajie & Tianzi Mountain
After breakfast, head to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Take park transport and/or cable cars to the main viewpoints at Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain, where stone pillars, cliffs, and deep valleys create the park’s famous “Avatar‑like” scenery.
Walk between viewing platforms on paved paths, stopping for photos and short explanations about the geology, legends, and conservation of this UNESCO‑listed landscape.
Depending on your route, descend via the Bailong Elevator, the glass‑fronted outdoor lift set against the cliff.
Overnight in Wulingyuan.
Day 3 – Golden Whip Stream, Ten‑Mile Gallery & Tujia Cultural Evening
Today is a slower‑paced immersion in the park.
Stroll along Golden Whip Stream, following a clear river through a narrow valley framed by steep, forested cliffs; watch for monkeys and birds as you walk.
Continue to the Ten‑Mile Gallery area, using the park shuttle and walking paths to pass rock formations that locals compare to paintings and storybook figures, each with its own folk name and tale.
In the late afternoon or evening, visit a Tujia folk village or similar cultural site.
Learn about Tujia history and architecture, then take part in a simple interactive activity such as learning a short Tujia folk song or dance step, or trying basic embroidery or weaving under a local artisan’s guidance.
Overnight in Wulingyuan.
Day 4 – Tianmen Mountain: Cableway, Glass Walks & Heaven’s Gate
Return to Zhangjiajie City and board the Tianmen Mountain cableway, enjoying sweeping views over the city and the winding “99‑curve road” below.
On the summit, walk along designated trails and try one of the glass skywalks built along the cliff edge for a thrilling view down the vertical rock face.
Use internal transportation or stairways/escaltors to reach the Tianmen Cave (Heaven’s Gate) area, the huge natural rock arch that gives the mountain its name, and spend time appreciating the scale and symbolism of this natural gateway.
In the evening, watch a large‑scale outdoor performance such as “Tianmen Fox Fairy”, which uses music, dance, and storytelling to bring Zhangjiajie’s mountain legends to life.
Overnight in Zhangjiajie City.
Day 5 – Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon: Glass Bridge & Departure
In the morning, drive to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon.
Walk across the glass bridge suspended high above the gorge, taking in panoramic views of cliffs, waterfalls, and forest below.
Continue with a walk down into the canyon along paths and stairs (or elevator where available), following streams and small waterfalls; light adventure options such as slides or zip lines can be added according to your preference and time.
After the Grand Canyon visit, return to Zhangjiajie City and transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey, concluding your 5‑day Zhangjiajie nature and cultural immersion tour.
