Guidelines for Purchasing High-end ICH Handicrafts

High-end intangible cultural heritage handicrafts possess both cultural value and collectible attributes. From purchasing and identification to daily maintenance, there are corresponding core considerations that can help you better protect their artistic and market value.
1. Precautions for purchase and

  • identification
    Choose formal channels

Give priority to brand stores, shopping mall counters, or officially certified studios of intangible cultural heritage inheritors with complete qualifications and good reputation. The handicraft comes from the "Gongmei Building" intangible cultural heritage handmade space under the Beijing Arts and Crafts Group, and is personally made by a national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritor, with professional endorsement
  • Verify product information
Upon receipt of the goods, please inspect and verify the authenticity of the product, patent/certificate at the earliest convenience. Check if the sample image, weight, material, and other information on the certificate fully match the actual product. If any issues are found, please contact us promptly, or you may lodge a complaint or report to the relevant authorities.
  • Be wary of marketing gimmicks
Adopt a rational perspective towards slogans such as "Inheriting Ancient Techniques", "Inheriting Craftsmanship", and "Ancestral Craftsmanship" found on the internet and e-commerce platforms. Do not be misled by commercial packaging and dramatic interpretations, and avoid paying for false premiums.
  • Distinguish the authenticity of handmade products
The core value of intangible cultural heritage handicrafts lies in traditional manual skills. One can distinguish between genuine handmade products and machine-made imitations by observing the manual traces on the back/inside of the product (such as irregular thread ends, unique texture), and checking the information of the inheritor. For example, the "warp-through and weft-breaking" technique of silk products cannot be fully replicated by machines.

2. General Principles for Daily Maintenance
The core logic of preservation for high-end intangible cultural heritage handicrafts of different categories is to avoid extreme environments, keep away from corrosive substances, and maintain their stable preservation state:

  • Temperature and humidity control: Most categories are suitable for storage in an environment with a temperature of 18-25℃ and a relative humidity of 40%-60%. Avoid sudden changes in temperature and humidity to prevent cracking of wooden and bamboo products, as well as mold and deformation of silk fabrics.
  • Avoid environmental damage: Keep away from direct sunlight, open flames, fire walls, and other heat sources to prevent velvet threads from fading and wooden products from cracking. If possible, store them in UV-resistant glass display cabinets.
  • Cleaning method compliance: Do not use wet cloth or chemical cleaning agents for wiping. Choose the appropriate method based on the material. For example, use a pure cotton towel containing wax to wipe wood carvings, use a soft-bristled brush to gently sweep away dust on Su embroidery, and use a soft cloth to gently wipe away dust on jade carvings. For more maintenance details, please refer to "Product Details".
  • Avoid external damage: Prevent hard objects from rubbing or colliding with craftworks. When moving large pieces, hold the top with one hand and support the bottom with the other, handling with care to avoid scratching or fraying.
