Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Xi’an: First Glimpse of the Ancient Capital

Upon arrival in Xi’an, your private guide will meet you at the airport or railway station and escort you to your hotel in the city.
On the way, relax in a comfortable private vehicle while your guide introduces the city’s role as the starting point of the Silk Road and capital of multiple dynasties, helping you get oriented before sightseeing begins.

Overnight in Xi’an.

Day 2 – The Terracotta Army & Huaqing Palace

After breakfast, set out with your guide for about an hour’s drive into the countryside to visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum.
Ride a park tram to the excavation halls and spend unhurried time in the three main pits, where thousands of life-sized soldiers, horses, and officers stand in formation. Your guide will explain how they were made, buried, and rediscovered, and point out details such as ranks, hairstyles, and traces of original pigments.

In the afternoon, continue to nearby Huaqing Palace, a historic complex of gardens and hot springs at the foot of Lishan. Explore its pavilions and pools while hearing stories of the Tang emperor Xuanzong and his famous consort Yang Yuhuan, as well as the site’s later political significance.
If you wish, you can stay into the evening to watch the large-scale outdoor show “Everlasting Regret” (optional, pre-booking recommended), which uses music, dance, and special effects to retell their legendary love story.

Overnight in Xi’an.

Day 3 – Mt. Huashan: Peaks, Paths & Panoramas

This morning, leave the city behind on a scenic drive of around two hours to reach the base of Mt. Huashan, one of China’s Five Great Mountains.
From the visitor center, board a shuttle bus through the valley, then transfer to the West Peak cable car for a striking 20‑minute ascent into the high peaks. As the cabins climb, watch sheer cliffs and deep ravines open out below you.

At the top, follow a well-marked mountain path from West Peak towards South Peak, enjoying ridge walks, stone steps, and dramatic viewpoints along the way. Those who feel adventurous can edge closer to the area of the Plank Walk (participation is optional and subject to safety rules on the day).
If you have good energy and time, you may extend your exploration to trails reaching the East and Middle peaks, where quieter paths and different angles reveal yet more of Huashan’s rugged beauty.

When you are ready to descend, return to West Peak and take the cable car and shuttle back down the mountain, then drive back to Xi’an to rest at your hotel.

Overnight in Xi’an.

Day 4 – Ancient City Wall, Muslim Quarter & Departure

On your final day, visit the Ancient City Wall, one of the best-preserved city fortifications in China. Walk along the broad ramparts, or rent a bicycle if you prefer, and take in expansive views of the old and new districts of Xi’an spread out on all sides.

Later, head into the Muslim Quarter, a lively neighborhood of food stalls, shops, and narrow lanes. Follow your guide into side streets to try freshly made snacks and local specialties while learning about the Hui Muslim community and its centuries-long connection to Silk Road trade.

At the appropriate time, your guide and driver will see you off at the airport or railway station, bringing your Xi’an journey to a smooth close.

Sophia Gallagher

The Terracotta Army was, of course, incredible, but what surprised me most was how the itinerary connected it with the history of Xi’an itself. Walking through the Muslim Quarter, visiting the City Wall, and later learning about the Silk Road made the city feel much bigger than a single archaeological site. It became a story about exchange, empire, and everyday life rather than just ancient history.

Antoine Mercier

I’ve taught about the Silk Road for years, but standing at the starting point of it was something entirely different. Our guide David didn’t overload us with dates—instead, he focused on the people who traveled these routes and the ideas they carried with them. That made the history feel surprisingly relevant.

Rachel Kim

Making traditional biangbiang noodles was honestly so much fun. It wasn’t just cooking—we learned why noodles are such an important part of Shaanxi culture. Little experiences like that made Xi’an feel welcoming rather than overwhelming.
